The Masonry Society presents a variety of awards and scholarships annually from the categories below.
The TMS Fellow Award honors members whose outstanding contributions and dedicated service have profoundly advanced both the Society and masonry community.
Honorary Membership is the highest distinction conferred by The Masonry Society. It recognizes individuals who have achieved eminence in masonry research, design, or construction, and whose contributions have advanced the profession and strengthened the TMS community.
Established in honor of John B. Scalzi, whose pioneering leadership advanced innovative and creative masonry research, this award recognizes individuals who have made exceptional, lifelong contributions to the field of masonry research.
Paul Haller Structural Design Award
The Paul Haller Structural Design Award honors an individual engineer or engineering firm that has advanced the understanding and practice of structural masonry through elegant, efficient, and innovative design
Phillip J. Samblanet Service Award
The Phillip J. Samblanet Service Award honors individuals who volunteer their time and talents in meaningful ways reflecting the commitment Phil showed over 25+ years as Executive Director of TMS.
The TMS President’s Award honors an individual personally selected by the current President of The Masonry Society for their exceptional dedication and impact on the organization. Their unwavering commitment and willingness to do more than what’s expected exemplify the spirit that drives the continued success of TMS.
Established by three women engineers passionate about masonry, this award aims to encourage greater female participation in The Masonry Society by providing registration funding and travel assistance for attendance at the TMS Annual Meeting.
North American Masonry Conference (NAMC) Outstanding Paper Awards
Since the 5th North American Masonry Conference in 1990, awards have been presented to recognize outstanding papers presented at the conference.
Outstanding Student Thesis Award
Student Thesis Awards are presented annually to the best doctoral dissertation and master’s thesis on masonry topics.
Outstanding TMS Journal Paper Award
This award is presented to recognize outstanding papers that have been published in TMS Journal.
Clayford T. Grimm, P.E. Student Scholarship
Established in 2007 to honor the memory of Clayford T. Grimm, this Scholarship is awarded every year to a Master’s level graduate student who is conducting research in masonry. The investigation can be in masonry materials, structures, construction, or architecture and must be performed under the direction of a member of The Masonry Society.
James L. Noland Student Fellowship
Established in 1995 to honor the memory of James L. Noland, the Noland Fellowship is awarded every four years to a graduate student who is doing research on masonry. This research can be in materials, structures, architecture, or construction and must be performed under the direction of a member of The Masonry Society.
